ZWIESEL KRISTALLGLAS is investing in a green future.

Zwiesel Kristallglas AG’s message on Friday, 28 September 2012, was crystal clear with changeover of the last melting tank to sustainable oxy-fuel technology.

Over the last two years, Zwiesel Kristallglas AG has invested almost 30 million euros in constructing and/or renovating the glass melting tanks. The first changeover to the sustainable tank technology took place in April 2010 with the construction of a new tank (expansion of production capacity). A second, existing tank was converted and commissioned a few months later. Now the third and last glass melting tank has been dismantled and rebuilt, in a record time of just nine weeks.
With the words of the old glassmaking expression, “it requires endless suffering to make good glass”, the managing directors Dr. Robert Hartel and Dr. Andreas Buske reignited the tanks and wished the smelters a long and error-free “tank voyage” with precious, bubble-free and streak-free crystal.

Now the melting tank has to be gradually increased to an operating temperature of 1500 degrees. Only after this can production begin on 11 October, and can the tank be officially handed over to production manager Max Mühl by project manager Uwe Elbers.

With this final changeover to the sustainable and environmentally-friendly oxy-fuel technology, the environmental awareness of the world market leader at its Zwiesel site could not be greater, as in doing so, the company has laid foundations for successful growth in the future. Zwiesel Kristallglas AG is now excellently equipped for stricter environmental regulations.
