Die Deutsche Barkeeper-Union e.V. (German Bartender Association)

Cooperation

ZWIESEL KRISTALLGLAS AG supported the Junior Academy of the German Bartenders Association (DBU) for the first time in 2010.

Both institutions attach great value to the training of young talents and the promotion of trained young talents of high quality. That is why ZWIESEL KRISTALLGLAS decided to make a positive contribution. Particularly in the bar sector, it is a challenge to combine a high degree of resilience with elegance and individuality, whereby the DBU inspires with its experiences and has examined the designs of young artists for bar suitability.

What is the DBU?

Deutsche Barkeeper-Union e.V. (German Bartenders Association, DBU) is a professional association that was founded in 1909 by five American bartenders in Cologne as the “Internationale Barkeeper Union” (International Bartenders Association). The DBU is divided into 12 sections in Germany:

  • Baden-Württemberg
  • Bavaria
  • Berlin-Brandenburg
  • Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein/Bremen
  • Hessen
  • Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
  • Niedersachsen
  • North Rhine-Westphalia
  • Rhineland-Palatinate / Saarland
  • Saxony
  • Saxony-Anhalt
  • Thuringia

The German Bartenders Association, which in those days already counted 200 members, was an elite group of the “International Geneva Association” due to the special professional branch in the catering trade and received its own constitution in 1928. However, the name had to be renamed “Deutsche Barkeeper-Union” in order to be able to join the International Bartenders Association (IBA). The association separated from the International Geneva Association and joined the IBA in 1953. Today more than 50 countries are united in the IBA.

The approx. 1,300 members of the DBU include active bartenders/barmaids from the realm of hotel and trendy bars as well as supporting members from the beverage, hotel and catering industries.
